We began this adoption process a year ago.
We knew we wanted to adopt from Uganda - it seemed perfect since we live here now.
So last August we were getting permission from our mission organization and looking into different agencies and here we are a year later, hoping and praying every day that we will get to meet our little girl.
Every adoption journey is different but I thought it would be helpful for me to process by documenting what this particular "adventure" has been like for us.
September 2019 we were accepted as clients with Carolina Adoption Services, a US based adoption agency that has connections with 2 orphanages here in Uganda. We also began our home study and had completed all the paperwork by December 2019, except for the home visit. We learned in January 2020 that our agency now required the home inspection to be done by a US social worker. Our home study provider had tickets booked for the end of March to come to Uganda to do our home inspection - and then COVID got serious and she had to cancel. We waited for several months and were at a complete stand still.
At the end of June 2020 we found out that our agency was fine with a Ugandan social worker from one of their orphanages to come do our home visit so we scheduled that immediately. She came on July 11 and did our full home inspection. We were overjoyed to have that final piece complete. Our agency called to tell us about two little girls who were adoptable. We chose a baby girl born October 2019 and the investigation started July 13.
As part of the investigation (looking for any relatives and background information) she needed a DNA test which was done on August 6 and today, the 21st, those results are supposed to be ready. We are praying this will be the point when we hear the investigation is coming to a close. We traveled to Kampala a few days ago because our 14 year old had a nasty wound and knee injury from a motorcycle spill. We are going to hang around for a few more days for him to rest it up and in the meantime we're praying and hoping that we will get the go ahead to go meet and pick up the baby next week. We shall see. None of this process has been predictable and the time table has not been how we would have wished but it has been a faith journey and we're trusting God will bring this little one into our family in His perfect timing.
